West, Cox and Hellessey to play with the Lady Sharks in 2015
On the eve of our U18 Women playing in the VJBL Victorian Championship, it is with great excitement that the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association announces 3 of those U18 players, Eliza West, Georgia Cox and Ella Hellessey, have agreed to play with the BigV Women’s team for season 2015.
Season 2014 was a breakout year for Eliza West, winning the Lady Shark’s team MVP at the tender age of 17. West’s leadership and ability to contribute in multiple facets will only improve in season 2015.
Joining Eliza is Melbourne Boomers development player, Ella Hellessey. Ella has fielded offers from numerous clubs to play with them in season 2015, however, she has agreed to continuing her Basketball with her home club.
After missing 6 games in 2014, along with Eliza and Ella due to state team commitments, Georgia Cox will be available for the full season in 2015. Cox provided a much-needed team orientated scoring punch in 2014 and the coaching staff will look to her to improve on that again in 2015.
All 3 of these girls played their junior basketball at Southern Peninsula and have been major factors in the recent success of the club. Securing these 3 players so early further promotes the clear pathways that the SPBA provide and demonstrates the confidence they have that the SPBA will continue to help them develop.
Newly appointed coach Gerard Hillier is ecstatic with the confirmation that these girls will continue within the program for season 2015 “I am excited that these girls have decided to stay with the Sharks after having such successful junior careers at the club. To have the opportunity to continue working with 3 of the most talented juniors I have ever coached is something I am truly grateful for”
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association has more signings to announce in the coming months so stay tuned to hear the latest as it is released.
